This fascinating sighting was on our night drive from Muchenja Bush Camp (Norman Carr Safaris). We happened upon a herd of 400 strong buffalo on our night drive. They were a heaving mass, staring in unison at the oxbow lagoon to their left. We investigated. Soon we heard distress cries from two young buffalo who were caught in the mire by the snapping jaws of hungry crocs. There's more...a hungry lioness on the prowl on the opposite bank of the oxbow lagoon. Before we knew it, she was on 'our' side of the lagoon, pawing at the one potential meal. The large croc was just too much for her so she turned her attention to the other little one further down the bank. This video demonstrates the prowess of a South Luangwa lioness - a gutsy go-getter who will laugh in the face of danger (which, in this case, turned out to be three hungry crocs). The spoils of tug-o-war were enjoyed by the apex predator, the lioness, Queen of the Jungle.
